Veteran politician and minister Dr Vijaykumar Gavit landed in controversy after he said that daily consumption of fish can lead to one having beautiful eyes like model-actor Aishwarya Rai.
A six-time MLA from Nandurbar Assembly seat, Gavit, a BJP leader, is the Tribal Development Minister in the Eknath Shinde-led BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP government. His daughter, Dr Heena Gavit is an MP from Nandurbar Lok Sabha seat.
“Did I tell you about Aishwarya Rai? She lived near the seashore in Mangaluru. She would consume fish daily. Have you seen her eyes? You will also have eyes like her…. fish contain oils, it makes your skin smooth,” Gavit said, addressing a function.
His comments have gone viral on social media platforms and political parties have slammed him.
On a lighter vein, BJP MLA Nitesh Rane, who hails from the coastal Konkan region, said: “I eat fish daily. My eyes should have become like Aishwarya Rai's.… I will ask Gavit Sahib if there is any research on this.”
NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad said, “The minister is very learned and also looks experienced …. he should start a tutoring class, many students will join…”.
