The 40-year-old Captain Manoj Subramanyam was to operate a flight from Nagpur to Pune, 6E135.

In a brief statement, the IndiGo management confirmed the incident.

“We are saddened at the passing of one of our pilots in Nagpur earlier today. He took unwell at Nagpur airport and was rushed to the hospital where he unfortunately passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones,” IndiGo said.

The incident took place around 1200 hrs when he collapsed in the security hold area.

He was rushed to the KIMS-Kingsway Hospital, Nagpur, where he was pronounced dead on admission.

The Nagpur incident comes a day after a senior pilot of Qatar Airways died during a Delhi-bound flight from Doha, in which he was flying as a passenger. The flight was diverted to Dubai after the pilot fell ill mid-air. He had reportedly worked for SpiceJet, Alliance Air and Sahara earlier.

In another incident, a pilot collapsed and died inside a toilet onboard a Boeing 787 while flying from Miami to Chile, prompting an emergency landing in Panama on Sunday night.
