Mumbai: After being on the run for nearly two days, Mihir Shah, who was involved in the fatal hit-and-run accident in the Worli area of Pune, has been arrested by the Mumbai Police.
Mihir Shah (24) was arrested from Shahapur in the neighbouring Thane district.
Mihir Shah is son of Rajesh Shah, the son of a local politician.
Rajesh Shah is the deputy leader of Palghar district of Shiv Sena headed by Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde.
Mihir Shah is expected to be produced before a Magistrate’s court on Wednesday.
Mihir Shah has been booked under under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 281 (rash driving), 125B (causing grievous hurt), 238 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender and Sections 184 (driving dangerously), 134A (not taking the injured to hospital), 134B (not informing the police) of newly-introduced Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and 187 (punishment for offences related to accident) of the Motor Vehicle Act.
A look out circular (LOC) was also issued against him so that he does not escape from airports, ports or land borders.
Mihir Shah’s father Rajesh Shah and family driver Rajendra Singh Bidawat were arrested by the police.
While Rajesh Shah was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days, he moved a bail application which was granted.
Rajendra Singh Bidawat was sent to police custody.
The BMW allegedly driven by Mihir Shah hit the two-wheeler of the Nakhwa-couple hailing from fisherfolk community, on Sunday near the Atria Mall around 0530 hrs, when they were on way to the Sassoon Dock at Colaba to purchase fish stock for selling in local market.
While Kaveri Nakhwa (45) was dragged around 100 mts by the bonnet of the car, her husband Pradik Nakhwa (50) jumped off and sustained minor injuries.
Later, the accused reached Kalanagar at Bandra, dropped the driver, abandoned the car and fled.
