Mumbai: In the first major political fallout of the Worli BMW hit-and-run incident, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena removed Rajesh Shah, the father of accused Mihir Shah, as the deputy leader of the party’s Palghar unit.
After the incident, Shinde, the Maharashtra Chief Minister, has come under criticism of protecting the accused.
Shiv Sena secretary Sanjay More, in a one-line notification, removed Shah from the post of the deputy leader of Palghar.
However, he continues to be a member of the Shiv Sena.
“As per the orders of Shiv Sena chief leader Eknath Shinde, the party is relieving Rajesh Shah as deputy leader of Palghar unit,” said More.
The note, however, does not cite any reason for his removal.
It may be mentioned, Shinde had assured that hit-and-run incidents would not be tolerated and no one gets any immunity.
“I am deeply alarmed by the rise in hit-and-run incidents in Maharashtra. It is intolerable that the powerful and influential misuse their status to manipulate the system. Such miscarriages of justice will not be tolerated by my government… No one, whether rich, influential, or the offspring of bureaucrats or ministers, affiliated with any party, will have immunity as long as I am the Chief Minister of the State. I have zero tolerance for injustice,” Shinde had said.
