Mumbai: Coinciding with the Dussehra festivities, NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s grand nephew Rohit Pawar on Tuesday commenced an 850-km-long Pune-Nagpur march to draw the attention of people on a wide range of issues on the lines of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Known as 'Yuva Sangharsh Yatra', the march was flagged off by senior Pawar in Pune - a campaign that would largely take up the causes of students and youth.
Rohit is an MLA from Karjat-Jamkhed in Ahmednagar district and the CEO of Baramati Agro Ltd.
He chose to remain with Sharad Pawar & Co when his uncle Ajit walked out with a large chunk of MLAs to join NDA and become the Deputy CM.
“This march will encourage the youth from Maharashtra. Those in the government cannot ignore the youth,” Sharad Pawar said as he launched his grand nephew’s big political rally.
In around 45 days time, the march would cover the Pune-Nagpur belt of covering over 850 kilometers traversing through 830 villages in 28 tehsils from 10 Maharashtra districts.
“We decided to start the foot march on the issue of contractual recruitment which was withdrawn by the government. The other demands are recruitment on vacant posts of teachers and professors. The recruitment process for the same should be done through MPSC. Besides, the development of IT sectors in two-tier cities like Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Solapur, Kolhapur and Amravati. Likewise, there are several other issues,” Pawar said, adding that all the demands could be put together and discussed with the government.
