The accused patient had come to the hospital with injuries on his face, which are suspected to be because of some altercation and while he was being treated, he and his relatives abused and threatened the doctor. The group of 5-6 drunk men along with the patient then physically assaulted her.

The doctor sustained injuries while trying to defend herself. The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) has expressed serious concern over the incident.

At the hospital, the accused was sent to the ENT department.

Dr Akshya More, General Secretary, Sion-MARD said, "When the doctor was examining him, he started abusing her. Instead of trying to control him, his relatives too joined and targeted her."

He also added that this is a matter of great concern.

The patient and the relatives fled after the incident and the resident doctors have approached the Sion police station.

The incident took place in the wake of nationwide protest of doctors following the Kolkata rape-murder incident.
