West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has invited Ranil Wickremesinghe, Sri Lanka's present to state's business summit scheduled to take place in November this year. BJP Bengal leader Suvendu Adhikari, however, took a dig at the development, comparing state's economic conditions to that of the island nation. Banerjee, on Wednesday, shared on a social platform that the Lankan president saw her at the Dubai International Airport lounge and called her to join for some discussion.
"I have been humbled by his greetings and invited him to the Bengal Global Business Summit 2023 in Kolkata," Banerjee stated. She added that the president extended her an invitation for visiting Sri Lanka. "It was a pleasant interaction with deep implications," she added.
The chief minister's update prompted Adhikari to take a jibe at the TMC supremo's post in form of an unrealistic and assumed conversation between Banerjee and the president. Adhikari took potshots at West Bengal by comparing the state's economic situation to that of the neighbouring nation's economic plight and said that while MoUs are signed at state's summit, yet investments don't happen.
Talking to reporters, Adhikari talked of Lanka's economic situation. He claimed that the state's economic condition is worrisome too, and it has a huge debt.
