A man ended his life by suicide allegedly by jumping in front of a moving train after murdering his wife and son, at Pakshikere in Mulki police station limits.
According to Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal, the deceased are Karthik Bhat (32), his wife Priyanka (27), a native of Shivamogga and four year old son Hruday.
The body of Karthik was discovered approximately two kilometers from the station on the track by railway track master Naveen, who filed complaint, based on which a UDR Case was registered in Mulki station. Upon searching the area, officers found only a key of a two-wheeler near the scene, suspecting it might belong to a victim. Later, they noticed a unattended vehicle parked nearby. On searching the vehicle, they found RC card through which , the identity of the victim was ascertained.
After murdering his wife and child at home, he had directly headed to end his life. Karthik was working in a bank and later had moved abroad for work.
It was said that Karthik lived with his family, including his father, mother, wife, and son. His father Janardhan and mother were working in a hotel nearby for the past 30 years. He was married to Priyanka for the past six years. Though all lived in the same house, they were not talking to each other for the past three years. They lived in separate rooms and managed their affairs separately, said the Commissioner.
Karthik's father and mother had returned back from work on Friday at around 4 pm and stayed in the house but they were not aware of the whereabouts of their son. Seeing his room locked they thought the entire family has gone out. The police on Saturday contacted Karthik's parents as calls to Priyanka could not be connected. On unlocking Karthik's room, police found the body of Priyanka and her son with stab injuries. There was also a saree tied to the ceiling fan suggesting that Karthik may have attempted to end his life in the room.
In the death note found at the crime scene , Karthik had admitted to killing his wife and son, before ending his life. FSL mobile team and Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) have rushed to the spot. A case will be registered based on a complaint by the family members. Further investigation is in progress.
