According to ATS officials, this is the biggest case of busting a narcotics drug-making factory till date. "The factory, operating in an approximately 2500 VAR shed, has been found to be the largest illegal factory ever busted by ATS, Gujarat till date. It has the capacity to produce approximately 25 kg of mephedrone per day," ATS said in a release.

The team of ATS and NCB raided a factory in Bagroda Industrial Estate located on the outskirts of Bhopal on Saturday. During the raid, the manufacturing of mephedrone was under way. The officials seized a total of 907.09 kg of Mephedrone both in solid and liquid form from the spot.

Besides, around 5,000 kg of raw material and equipment used for the production of mephedrone, including grinders, motors, glass flasks, heaters and other apparatus, were also found during the raid. The team arrested two persons identified as Amit Prakashchandra Chaturvedi, 57, a resident of Kotra Sultanabad Road, Bhopal and Sanyal Prakash Bane, 40, a resident of Prabhu Atlantis, Nashik in Maharashtra.

Investigation revealed that Bane was previously arrested in 2017 in connection with an MD seizure case in Amboli police station in Mumbai and had served five years in jail. After his release, he conspired with co-accused Chaturvedi to manufacture and sell MD drugs. They rented a shed in Bagroda Industrial Estate about 6 to 7 months ago and were manufacturing the drugs for the past three to four months.

In August, ATS had arrested Md Yunus alias Eijaz, 41, and Md Adil Shaikh, 34, both residents of Dongri in Mumbai allegedly for running mephedrone making factory from a residential flat in Bhiwandi town of Thane district in Maharashtra. The ATS seized 793 kg of liquid MD worth about Rs 800 crore from the flat.

Similarly, in June, another MD making unit in Surat's Palsana was busted. Three persons identified as Sunil Yadav, Vijay Gajera and Haresh Korat were arrested. They were running the facility at a rented shop in an industrial zone.
