After filmmaker Subhash Ghai was accused in the #MeToo movement, as it continues to name alleged oppressors in Bollywood with frontline directors Sajid Khan and Luv Ranjan coming under fire for alleged misconduct.
The shooting of Housefull 4 had to be stopped after an embarrassed Sajid Khan walked out of the project.
More actors such as Akshay Kumar, Farhan Akhtar and Ajay Devgun have come out in support of victims and preferred to keep distance from those who have been accused.
Sajid Khan, who is directing Housefull 4, faces charges of sexual harassment from actress Saloni Chopra and a journalist, but has now been removed from the project.
Khan's family distanced themselves from him, as his sister Farah Khan and cousin Farhan Akhtar spoke in support of the victims.
Akshay Kumar plays the lead in the film and incidentally also stars Nana Patekar, against whom actor Tanushree Dutta levelled charges of indecency and harassment spearheading the #MeToo movement in the country.
"In the wake of the allegations against me and the pressure being put on my family, my producer and the stars of my film Housefull 4, I must take the moral responsibility of stepping down from my directorial post till the time I can allay the allegations and prove the truth.. Request my friends in the media to kindly not pass judgment till the truth is out," Khan said on Twitter.
Akshay Kumar said: "I've just landed back in the country last night and reading all the news has been very disturbing. I've requested the producers of Housefull 4 to cancel the shoot until further investigation."
"This is something that requires stringent action. I will not work with any proven offenders and all those who have been subjugated to harassment should be heard and given the justice they deserve," he said.
It is to be noted that Akshay's wife Twinkle Khanna was first to ask to take a stand against the director.
"Appalled hearing multiple incidents of harassment and it is truly horrific to hear what these women have been through. Everyone involved in Housefull needs to take a firm stance on this issue. This cannot go on," Twinkle tweeted.
