MiG-27 crashes, pilot escapes with minor injuries

A MiG-27 aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed within two minutes of taking off in Rajasthan’s Barmer district on Tuesday afternoon. However, there is no casualty as the pilot bailed out safely.

According to defense sources the aircraft was on a routine training sortie.
Withina few minutes after taking off from the Uttarlai base it crashed near Allawani Ki Dhani in the Western sector, defence spokesman SD Goswami said.

Minor injuries

The pilot managed to save himself with minor injures and has been hospitalised, he said. Sources said according to preliminary investigation the technical fault is said to be the cause if the accident.

The MiG-27 took off at 3.55 pm and crashed at 3.57 pm, he said adding the pilot ejected safely.

A Court of Inquiry had been ordered into the crash, the spokesman said.

Sources said the aircraft crashed just about 100m meters from the Allawani Ki Dhani village avoiding a major casualty on the ground.

The village has a population of about 600 people. The debris of the aircraft was spread over a large part of the area while some parts fell on the electric lines.
