The financial capital of Mumbai and its suburbs received heavy rainfall on Tuesday even as the weatherman cautioned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coastal Konkan belt of Maharashtra for the next couple of days.

The Mumbai metropolitan region comprising the twin districts of Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban and neighbouring districts of Palghar, Thane, and Raigad received heavy overnight rainfall and during the day.

In the last 36 hours, more than 150 mm rainfall on an average has been reported in the MMR.

There was no impact of the rainfall on the suburban railway network of the Central Railway and Western Railway - the lifeline of Mumbai.

However, road traffic was running at a slow pace.

Water-logging was reported from some areas.

The IMD-Pune has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Maharashtra.

“As per IMD GFS guidance, possibility of heavy to very heavy over parts of central India - parts of Konkan, Ghat areas of Satara, Pune Nashik and parts of Coastal Andhra little more than that. Interior Maharashtra wide spread moderate rains possible. Heavy showers have not been ruled out,” said K H Hosalikar, Head-IMD-Pune.
