The Covid-19 pandemic continued to raise concern as the Mumbai metropolitan region (MMR) and Maharashtra crossed the 35,000 and 10,000-mark, respectively, on Thursday. Mumbai on Thursday reported over 5,000 new Covid-19 cases for the second day in a row.

In Maharashtra, 35,952 cases and 111 deaths were reported taking the progressive total to 26,00,833 and 53,795, respectively. On the other hand, Mumbai and MMR continue to post record 24-hour figures of 5,505 and 10,062, respectively.

With 5,504 new Covid-19 cases, Mumbai saw the biggest-ever spike since the outbreak. The financial capital saw 2,281 recoveries and 14 deaths in the last 24 hours. On Wednesday, Mumbai had recorded 5,185 new Covid-19 cases and six deaths.

The total active cases in the state now stand at 2,62,685.
