NCSC Vice-Chairman Raj Kumar Verka today said the Commission has written to the Punjab government to provide government jobs to both the daughters of Sarabjeet in the wake of his continuously degrading health.
Earlier, Sarabjeet's sister Dalveer Kaur had written to the Commission alleging apathy on part of authorities of the Pakistani jail where he is lodged towards his deteriorating health as, she said, he was suffering from high blood pressure.
Taking cognisance of the complaint, the Commission has issued notices to the Ministries of Home and External Affairs seeking reply by September 19, Kumar said, adding that if needed, the Commission's officials will also visit Pakistan in this connection.
Meanwhile, the Commission has also directed the state government to provide housing to Sarabjeet's family under various central and state housing schemes meant for Dalit families.
Sarabjeet belongs to the backward Valmiki community.
He has been awarded death penalty for his alleged involvement in twin bomb blasts in Lahore and Multan cities of Pakistan in 1990 and his petition is pending before a Pakistani court.
Sarabjeet is presently lodged in Pakistan's Kot Lakhpat Jail.
