The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday carried out raids at multiple locations across Jammu and Kashmir in a case related to spread of terrorist activities by various proscribed outfits.
A spokesperson of the NIA said searches were conducted at 14 locations in Anantnag, Kulgam and Pulwama districts of south Kashmir, northern Baramulla district and Jammu in case RC-05/2022/NIA/JMU.
He said the case pertains to criminal conspiracy for carrying out terrorist and subversive activities hatched by the cadres and over-ground workers (OGWs) of various proscribed organisations and their affiliates/off-shoots, operating under various pseudo names, at the behest of their Pakistani commanders/handlers.
“They are involved in carrying out terrorist attacks by using cyber-space in J&K, targeting minorities, security personnel and spreading communal disharmony. The case had been suo-moto registered as RC-05/2022/NIA/JMU on 21.06.2022 by NIA Police Station, Jammu,” the spokesperson added.
Raids were carried out following the arrest of a man in Jammu, sources said. Besides others, residences of a retired police officer, a sarpanch, and a government school teacher were raided.
The NIA has been probing multiple cases involving terror funding in the Valley. During the searches conducted today, various incriminating materials such as digital devices, SIM cards and digital storage devices were seized from the searched premises, the NIA statement said.
Since early 2017, the NIA has been continuously carrying out raids in Kashmir in connection with alleged terror funding, fidayeen (suicide) attack cases and the agency has arrested and questioned dozens of people in the last more than four years.
