Not a single case of “littering” at public places has been reported in Uttar Pradesh in the past five years!.

It is another matter though that one may come across heaps of garbage at public parks, roadsides and even inside the buildings that house government offices in the state capital as well as in the districts.

A Right To Information (RTI) query filed by a social activist here has revealed that no one has been fined in the state for “littering” and “smoking” at public places in the past five years.

The Directorate of Local bodies of Uttar Pradesh, in reply to the RTI query filed by Urvashi Sharma, said that there was no “record” with the government about fines being imposed on people for littering and smoking at public places. It replied in a similar way on the query pertaining to smoking at public places in the state.

“It is really shocking that in spite of the fact that public places are being littered all across Uttar Pradesh, the government has no records in this regard,” Sharma said while speaking to Deccan Herald here on Sunday.
