Ace shuttler P V Sindhu was on Thursday appointed a deputy collector in Andhra Pradesh, with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu handing over the orders personally to her at Amaravati.

Sindhu’s appointment was cleared following the approval of the state Assembly gathered in the new capital city to clear the GST Bill.

The shuttler chose Andhra Pradesh over Telangana, where a similar offer was made. The order said Sindhu should report to the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration authorities in a month of receiving the order.

“Issued an appointment order to PV Sindhu for post of Group 1 officer,” Naidu had said. “I am hopeful that she will bring more laurels to the country.”

The shuttler responded by saying her focus would remain on Badminton and she would work hard to fulfil the aspirations of people.

Job apart, the AP government also gave her Rs 3 crore cash prize and a 1,000 square yard residential plot in Amaravati following her silver medal at the Rio Olympics.

Sindhu is currently working as a deputy manager in Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited here.

The 22-year-old shuttler lives in Hyderabad and gets training at the Pullela Gopichand Academy. Naidu’s  government offered a 10-acre plot in Amaravati for Pullela to set up a badminton academy.

Sindhu also received a 1,000 square-yard plot in the up market Shaikpet area here and a cash reward of Rs 5 crore from the Telangana government.
