"The parties of I-N-D-I-A had demanded, in accordance with rule 267, to suspend all businesses to hold discussions on Manipur and for the Prime Minister to issue a statement, based on which the discussions could begin in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. We want a discussion on Manipur, PM Modi has to open his mouth on Manipur, says TMC leader Derek O'brien. He further says that under 267 rule, if a discussion is undertaken, other businesses has to be suspended.

The agenda is not read fully, says Mallikarjun Kharge. He says that apart from short-duration discussions, notices have also been submitted for suspension of business as well. 

I find the notices in order, says Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said that he has recieved 12 notices for short-duration dicussions. Three are on safety concerns in Indian Railways, while eight of the notices are for a discussion on the Manipur issue.

21 new bills, 10 pending bills likely to be tabled this session

The government has expressed its intent to bring 21 new bills along with ten other pending bills in this session, which ends on August 11.

One of the major bills that would come up before Parliament would be the Bill to replace an ordinance that has taken away Delhi government’s control over its bureaucrats. While the government would be able to pass the bill easily in Lok Sabha, it may have to sweat it out in Rajya Sabha where the BJP and its allies do not have enough numbers.

The government is likely to face tough questions on its alleged ineffectiveness in handling the Manipur incident and “silence” of Modi, who has not spoken about the issue in public.

Govt ready to discuss Manipur situation in Parliament, says Parliamentary Affairs Minister

Yesterday, the Union government said that it was ready to discuss the situation prevailing in Manipur in the Parliament in the upcoming Monsoon session, thus accepting the Opposition's demand.

Addressing reporters after the all-party meeting convened by the government on the eve of the Monsoon session, Parliamentary Affairs minister Pralhad Joshi said that government is ready to discuss the Manipur situation in Parliament.

He, however, rejected the Congress and other Opposition parties' demand that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should speak on Manipur violence in Parliament, claiming that the Opposition by seeking the Prime Minister's response, was looking for an excuse to disrupt proceedings of both the Houses.

Congress Lok Sabha MP Manish Tewari has given an adjournment motion notice to discuss the "ongoing ethnic clashes taking place in Manipur."
