The captain was identified as Arkan Younis of Jordan, and the chief engineer as Eonascho Eon of Romania, an officer of the Yellowgate Police Station, who is investigating the case, told IANS.

The police had interrogated Younis and Eon Friday and filed a first information report, he added. The ship, laden with 60,000 tonnes of coal and 340 tonnes of fuel and diesel sank Thursday afternoon just outside Mumbai harbour, raising apprehensions of an ecological hazard.

However, all the 30 crewmen aboard - Indonesians, Jordanians and Romanians - were rescued in a coordinated effort by the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard. The ship, owned and managed by M/s. Delta Shipping Marine Services, was carrying 290 tonnes of fuel oil and another 50 tonnes of diesel.

It was on a voyage from Lubuk-Tutung, Indonesia, to Dahej Port, Gujarat, carrying the consignment meant for Adani Enterprises Ltd.
