The Lok Sabha started debating the issue of price rise on Wednesday. In  hard-hitting speech, BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said that the BJP did not support growth if it excluded the poor. “Inflation is worst form of taxation for common mna,” he added.

After two days of disruption, the government and Opposition reached a compromise on Tuesday on taking up a debate on price rise under rules that entail voting. Under the agreement reached after a few rounds of talks, the discussion would be taken up in the Lok Sabha today while the Rajya Sabha will have the debate next week.

A consensus resolution, to be moved in both the Houses, has also been worked out. It reads -- "Despite repeated discussions on price rise in the House, the burden of price rise on the common man is continuing. Expressing deep concern over price rise, this House calls upon the government to take immediate effective steps to check inflation that will give relief to the common man."
