Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the members of the US Congress for coming together to celebrate their country's ties with India, saying there must be a contest of ideas at home but people must also come together as one while speaking for the nation.

The Prime Minister said that he had visited USA around three decades ago as a common man, but is today pleased to see so many people of the Indian diaspora at the White House.
"Two proud nations bondedby the three words - 'We The People'," says Biden about the similarities between the United States and India. "India and US are working closely on eliminating poverty, expanding access to healthcare, addressing climate change and tackling food and energy insecurity triggered by the Russian war on Ukraine," says Biden.
Biden also talks about the cooperation between the two nations when it comes to the Quad, climate change, world peace, and democracy. He reminded through his speech that India and the United States share common values.
Some are also chanting "Modi! Modi!" while a South Asian choir, Penn Masala, was seen performing a song from the Hrithik Roshan film Jodhaa Akbar.

The Biden administration will make it easier for Indians to live and work in the United States, using this week's state visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help some skilled workers enter or remain in the country, according to three people familiar with the matter.

Modi was received by the President and the First Lady, and before entering the building, they posed for photos and were seen chatting.
As the official gift, US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will present PM Modi with a handmade, antique American book galley from the early 20th Century. President Biden will also gift PM Modi a vintage American camera, accompanied by an archival facsimile print of George Eastman’s Patent of the first Kodak camera, and a hardcover book of American wildlife photography. At a media preview at the White House, ahead of the State Dinner that will be hosted for PM Narendra Modi, dishes that will be served have been put on display.

The Prime Minister paid respects to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the UN HQ soon after his arrival.
"People are excited; they are already chanting. They have been waiting outside since 6 am," said Yoga and meditaton instructor Ruchika Lal.
"I think India and Prime Minister Modi are at a juncture in which there's going to create a tremendous opportunity, tremendous changes in India that are going to be really startling," Dalio said after meeting the PM.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur hailed PM Modi after multi-billionaire Elon Musk said he is a fan of the latter after the two interacted on the PM's visit to the United States. Thakur further said, "Big personalities across the world are also praising PM Modi now."
Musk said that he himself is planning to visit India next year and is also trying to bring Starlink to the country.

Meanwhile, the Congress and the BJP engaged in a war of words over International Day of Yoga as the grand old party took to its social media on Wednesday to credit Jawaharlal Nehru for 'popularising' yoga. The PM's itinerary will commence in New York with him leading the celebrations of the International Yoga Day at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters on June 21.
"The PM will be paying respect to the bust of Mahatma Gandhi that now proudly adorns the North Lawn of the UN headquarters, where yoga will be conducted,” said Ruchira Komboj India’s permanent representative to the UN.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent out a message to both China and Russia by stressing respect for the sovereignty of all nations as he embarked on a four-day tour to the United States – a visit which, according to him, will reinforce the India-America ties based on shared values of democracy.
The prime minister said that India was fully prepared to protect its sovereignty in the face of unilateral moves by China to alter the status quo along the disputed boundary between the two nations. He not only reiterated India’s promise to do whatever it could to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict but also stressed that disputes should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy and not war.
Musk told reporters after meeting Modi that Twitter, the social media giant he owns, does not have a choice but to follow the local government. Or it will get shut down, he said when asked about the company's former owner and CEO Jack Dorsey's recent allegation against the Indian government.
"The best we can do is to follow the laws in any given country," he said, adding that it is impossible for "us to do more than that".
There are different rules and regulations for different forms of governments, and "we will do our best to provide the freest speech that is possible under the law", Musk said.
