A day before her maiden visit to the state capital, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was targeted by another senior BJP leader, who made a controversial remark on her dressing.
BJP Lok Sabha member from Basti district Harish Dwivedi said that Priyanka wore "jeans and top" when she was in Delhi and put on "saree-sindoor" (vermillion) while campaigning.
"Priyanka wear jeans and top in Delhi but wears saree and sindoor when she goes to the constituencies," Dwivedi said while speaking at a programme in Basti town, about 200 km from here, on Saturday.
Dwivedi said that the BJP was not "worried" over Priyanka's plunge into active politics. "Priyanka will also fail...the Congress does not have a leader to take on the BJP," he added.
Priyanka has been on the target of BJP leaders ever since she joined active politics and was made Congress general secretary.
Earlier, BJP legislator from Ballia Surendra Singh had termed Congress president Rahul Gandhi as "Raavana" and his sister Priyanka as "Shurpanakha" (Ravana's sister).
BJP minister in Bihar Vinod Narain Jha had also triggered controversy by saying that Priyanka had no quality other than having a "beautiful face".
Congress leaders slammed the saffron party for their remarks on Priyanka and said that their comments reflect that BJP leaders were "worried" by her entry into politics.
