With a section of the BJP continuing to defend South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri for his communal slurs in the Lok Sabha against BSP MP Danish Ali during the recently concluded Special Session of Parliament, the party is likely to brazen out through the episode. After several Opposition MPs complained against Bidhuri’s slurs, BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey and Ravi Kishan have now written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla against BSP MP Danish Ali.

While Dubey alleged that Danish uttered a defamatory word against the prime minister, Kishan asked the Speaker to investigate what the BSP MP said to provoke Bidhuri.

In his letter, written to Birla on Friday, Dubey said that while Bidhuri “uttered some objectionable words”, Ali made “a highly objectionable and deplorable” comment against PM Modi. He also alleged that other Opposition MPs, including TMC’s Saugata Ray, made “unsavoury” comments against the faith of some. He urged the Speaker to institute an inquiry against the utterances made by various members present in the House when the incident occured.

The Godda MP, in his letter, also says that Ali’s comments against Modi were “enough” for a “patriotic public representative” like Bidhuri to “lose his cool”.

Kishan wrote that while Bidhuri’s comments were “inappropriate” and “unacceptable”, the circumstances leading to the outburst need to be “investigated and examined”. Seeking to draw attention to what he termed as Ali’s “habit” of heckling, Kishan alleged that on December 9, 2022, when he was introducing his private member’s legislation, The Population Control Bill, 2019, Ali interrupted him and made personal remarks against him.

“... Danish Ali tried to interrupt me and made personal remarks against me stating that the Member is introducing a Private Members Bill in the House although he is himself having 4 children (sic),” the letter sent on Sunday, read.

BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya said on X that Dubey’s letter spells out a “fair” demand. “What Shri Ramesh Bhidhuri said was in response to Ali’s low jibe… It also explains why Rahul Gandhi rushed to hug Danish Ali,” Malviya wrote.

The official stand of the party has been to send a show cause notice to Bidhuri asking him to explain his conduct, per reports.
