A civilian was killed while two others were injured after army allegedly opened fire on protesters in Lassipora area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Friday evening.
A police official said a patrolling party of army's 55-Rashtriya Rifles came under stone-pelting in the area and the soldiers opened few shots to disperse the protesters.
In the incident, three civilians, including a girl identified as Ruqaya Jan, suffered injuries. Seriously injured Viqas Rather (17) was referred to SMHS Srinagar hospital where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival, health officials said.
Pulwama's SSP Aslam Choudhary confirmed the death of the youth.
The residents of the area said that the clashes erupted after army raided some houses, including that of a militant. They charged that army vandalised the property and beat up the residents.
The latest killing of a civilian protester came on a day when Centre's month-long suspension of operations against militants in Jammu and Kashmir is about to come to an end on the eve of Eid.
Sources said the Centre is not likely to extend the month-long ceasefire in Kashmir, but it may refrain from publicly announcing the resumption of operations.
