New Delhi: Suspended Congress MP Praneet Kaur, wife of former Punjab CM Capt Amarinder, joined the BJP on Thursday.
Joining the BJP in the presence of state president Sunil Jakhar and general secretaries Vinod Tawde, Arun Singh and Tarun Chugh, said that she hopes for a better innings with the BJP.
“I will work for my constituency, my state and the country under the leadership of PM Modi. I had a good innings with the Congress party and I hope I'll have a better innings with the BJP,” she told reporters at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. Kaur also met party president JP Nadda soon after.
When asked if she will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the MP from Patiala said: “That depends on the BJP”.
Kaur had voted in support of the expulsion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra in December, as part of the Ethics Committee, breaking away from the party line.
Captain Amarinder, who was the chief minister of Punjab, resigned from his post in September 2021, and had floated his own party — the Punjab Lok Congress. He later merged his party with the BJP in September 2022.
Kaur, a four time MP, was suspended by the Congress in February last year.
