The Railway's UTS mobile app for buying unreserved tickets online has been made available nationwide from Thursday.
Buying unreserved tickets on all non-suburban sections across all zonal railways has been made available from November 1, which will end the passengers to wait in queues, Railway Ministry stated.
The passengers have to download ‘UTSONMOBILE’ app on Android, iOS and Windows phones and have to register by furnishing requisite details. After registration the user will be given a user-ID and password to log-in and book tickets.
To buy tickets, passengers have to be within a 5-km range of the source station. A passenger is allowed to book four tickets at a time. A registered user can also buy platform tickets and monthly passes.
Though the pilot project for buying tickets through mobile phones was launched in December 2014 on select stations in Mumbai, subsequently it extended to all suburban sections in metropolitan cities of Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Secunderabad between 2015 and 2017 along with the facility of paperless ticketing.
