Police sources said the body of the 51-year-old naval officer was taken to the medical college this morning for medical examination to ascertain the cause of his death.

Meanwhile, Naval sources said the funeral of the second senior most officer in the Southern Naval command has been tentatively scheduled for tomorrow.

The cremation was likely to be held here, the sources said. Police have registered a case of 'unnatural death', while Navy has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

According to Navy, the Rear Admiral was at the training establishment's small arms firing range when he died as a pistol he was inspecting went off accidentally.
