RGUHS VC selection to be delayed

The selection of the next vice-chancellor for the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) will have to wait as the search panel to shortlist candidates for the post deferred its meeting expected to be held on Friday.

Academicians and students had alleged that the process was being rushed through to ensure appointment of the new vice chancellor before Governor H R Bhardwaj’s term ends on June 28.

Sources told Deccan Herald that one of the search committee members who was abroad was even asked to come back on a short notice for the meeting.

It is suspected that the scathing criticism from different quarters against the move and the quick political development on Friday morning — Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah being given additional charge of Karnataka — might have led the committee to defer the meeting.

A search committee member, Dr C N Manjunath, maintained that the meeting was not originally scheduled for Friday. “The meeting will be held in the first week of July,” he added.
