Irked by the behaviour of the eighth standard student who he found chatting with another boy in class, the teacher, Moses, beat him, police sources said.
On a complaint from the boy`s father, police registered a case and arrested the teacher of the school at Marapalam near here last night.
The boy has since been admitted to hospital. The Puducherry government had banned corporal punishment in schools some five years ago.
