State Primary and Secondary education minister Madhu Bangarappa stated that 600 Karnataka Public Schools will be opened in the state in the next academic year.
He was speaking after inaugurating the district level sports meet of higher primary schools in Bavikere of Tarikere taluk on Thursday.
The minister said "Two to three KPS will be opened in each taluk after forming clusters in rural areas, towards addressing the issue of lack of basic amenities in government schools. This will help in achieving a healthy ratio between teachers and students. Board examinations will be conducted three times in a year, keeping in mind the students who have failed in the SSLC exam."
Tarikere MLA G H Srinivas said "There are two Karnataka Public Schools in Tarikere legislative assembly constituency. It has been planned to open a minimum of six KPS in the next academic year".
He meanwhile urged to release 700 cusec water from upper Bhadra dam for the benefit of irrigation by farmers and towards dairy farming.

People of Seventh Hosakote village in Suntikoppa of Kodagu set an example of brotherhood and religious harmony when the Ganeshotsava idol immersion procession coincided with the Eid-Milad procession on Thursday.
As the Eid-Milad procession neared the Ganapathy temple in the village, people from Hindu community distributed cold drinks and water to the muslims who took part in the procession.
Hindu people hugged their muslim friends to convey the greetings of the Eid-Milad festival.
During the same day, as the idol immersion procession of Lord Ganesha consecrated at the Ganapathy temple passed in front of the mosque, people from muslim community provided water and cold drinks to the devotees from Hindu community who had gathered for the 'Shobhayatra' procession.
Sweets were exchanged on the occasion.
Leaders from both the religions stated on the occasion that the people from Hindu and Muslim communities will continue to carry out united efforts towards social works in the region.

Daily wage labourers arrive at the hospital to get treated, after being stung by honey bees.

In an incident of attack by honey bees, more than ten daily-wage workers were injured near Kallakki estate in Baluru, Kottigehara.
As the bees started stinging the labourers working in the coffee plantation ran helter-skelter.
The injured were provided with first aid in Banakal and were later admitted to the government hospital in Mudigere for advanced treatment.
