Fed up with their alleged sexual exploitation by father, three teenaged sisters, residents of Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district, tried to commit suicide.
The sisters, aged between 15 and 19, had decided that they would jump before a speeding train and reached Daryabad railway station on Lucknow-Faizabad section of the Northern Railway on Friday and sat in the middle of the track.
The sisters, however, got scared when they saw the approaching train and tried to run away from the tracks. While two of them managed to run to safety, the eldest sister lost one of her legs.
The police, which reached the spot on being informed by the local villagers, rushed the injured girl to the hospital, where her condition was stated to be stable.
Police said that the girls said that they were repeatedly raped by their father. Their mother had also run away from home after being assaulted by the father, the sisters said.
A police team later raided their home in Ram Sanehi Ghat area in the district to nab the father but he was not found.
The locals said that the man had three wives and 11 children from them. Barring the three sisters, none lived with him as he was a drunkard and used to thrash his wives.
A case was lodged by the police in this regard and efforts were on to nab the culprit, the police said.
