Veteran South Indian film director K S R Doss passed away in Chennai on Friday night, sources in a hospital said on Saturday.
Doss, 76, had been suffering from multiple ailments and died of heart failure, sources in Apollo Hospital in the city, where he was brought for emergency treatment on Friday night, told Deccan Herald on Saturday.
Doss was brought in a bad state with “severe breathlessness” and the end came around 9 pm, sources explained.
Born in Andhra Pradesh, Doss entered the Kannada film industry with “Kalla Kulla,” produced by C V L Shastri in 1975.
Film industry sources said that Doss’s directorial ventures in the celluloid world included very successful flicks with top stars like Vishnuvardhan, NT Rama Rao, Shobhan Babu, Shankar Nag, Rajnikanth, Ambareesh and Chiranjeevi.
Known for his passion for film making, Doss has directed over 20 Kannada films, besides several hits in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam.
Sources said the total number of films he directed in all the languages would be about 100.A resident of Bangalore for several years, Doss’s full-length action movie “Rowdy Rani” was a trendsetter of sorts in 1970, while he also made the “cowboy film” “Mosagallaki Mosagudu” in 1971.
