SC verdict tomorrow on Delhi govt's plea against LG's decision to appoint alderman in MCD
The Supreme Court is scheduled to pronounce its verdict on August 5 on a plea of the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government challenging the Lieutenant Governor's decision to nominate aldermen in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi without the aid and and advice of the council of ministers.

In June, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches against Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister V Senthil Balaji and some others as part of a money laundering investigation and held multi-city searches. Balaji's office room at the Secretariat here was among the locations raided by the ED officials. The minister, a DMK strongman from Karur district, said he was not aware of what the officials had come searching for at his premises and assured to extend total cooperation in the probe.
A bench of Justices B R Gavai and KV Viswanathan will take up for hearing both the pleas. On July 29, Additional Solicitor General S V Raju, appearing for CBI and ED, had told the bench that while the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed its response on Sisodia's plea, it had not come on record.

The Supreme Court on July 26 extended its July 22 interim order staying the directives issued by the BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh, asking eateries along the Kanwar Yatra routes to display the names of their owners, staff and other details.

A Bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and PS Narasimha ruled that the Delhi LG is not bound by the aid and advice of the Delhi government's cabinet on appointment of aldermen since his powers in that regard is derived from the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act.

The West Bengal government on Monday hit out at the Calcutta High Court for its critical remarks against the State while quashing a decision to identify various classes in the State as Other Backward Classes (OBC).
Representing the State of West Bengal, Senior Advocate Indira Jaising argued that there has been a complete judicial overreach by the High Court.
"Why is all this happening.. because these are Muslims?? and they say it is about religion... Complete falsehood. It is being said that I made reservations because there are Muslims... We have report after report to show that all communities have been considered. Mandal Commission criteria have been followed. State wants to run the State... but if Court wants to run it, then let them.. How should we? Please answer!" she argued.
