New Delhi: A day before the last day of polling, PM Modi will visit Kanyakumari on May 30 for a meditation trip. The PM will meditate at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial Hall on May 31.
BJP leaders said that the move was to send out a signal of national unity, and the prime minister is set to spend two-three days there.
During his visit to Kanyakumari, the prime minister will pay homage at the Rock Memorial, and he will meditate at the Dhyana Mandapam – at the same spot where Swami Vivekananda had meditated.
The spot is situated close to a statue of Tamil saint Tiruvalluvar off the coast of Kanyakumari. The Rock Memorial is a popular tourist attraction and is surrounded by the Laccadive sea at the confluence of the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea.
In 2019, after wrapping up the general elections in May, in a similar move, the prime minister headed to Kedarnath shrine and meditated in the Rudra meditation cave. BJP leaders said that the prime minister then spent about 17 hours meditating then.Prior to that, in 2014, he spent time at Pratapgarh at the spot of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s victory over Afzal Khan.
Polling for the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections is set to end on June 1, with counting to be done on June 4. Before he heads to the meditation retreat, PM Modi has based himself in Varanasi between May 26 and May 31 for the final leg of the polls. His seat, varanasi, heads to the polls in the last phase.
