Chennai: Five engineering students in the age group of 20-21 have been arrested for selling drugs with the Chennai Police recovering LSD stamps, OG Ganja, and MDMA tablets from their possession. The students had come in contact with each other on Reddit, a social networking app, and began selling drugs, the police said.
The racket was busted after the J J Nagar police in Chennai picked up 21-year-old R Karthikeyan on Sunday and recovered 17 LSD stamps and 3 grams of OG Ganja from him. “Based on the interrogation with Karthikeyan, the police arrested B Aravind Balaji, T Vatsal, A Aaruni, and S Trishan Sampath and recovered drugs from their possession,” a senior police officer said.
In all, 94 LSD stamps, 48 MDMA tablets, and 700 grams of ganga were recovered from the five college students. While Karthikeyan has been arrested and is to be produced before a court, police are interrogating the remaining four students.
“It has been confirmed that all the five students had been taking drugs based on a test conducted on them at the Central Drugs Testing Laboratory (CDTL),” the officer added.
Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) is an illegal street drug which either comes as a white powder or clear colourless liquid, while MDMA acts as both a stimulant and psychedelic, producing an energizing effect.
The arrest comes just a week after the police busted a drug syndicate of college students to manufacture crystal meth (methamphetamine). Seven students had set up a lab in Chennai to produce the highly-addictive drug and were arrested by the police.
