Two persons are feared dead after jumping from a train in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district when the engine and part of a compartment caught fire on Friday.
The incident took place at the Chathaat station in the district. The engine of the Dibrugarh bound Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express suddenly caught fire.
According to officials of the North East Frontier Railways, the fire spread to the compartment behind the engine.
“Two passengers are feared dead after they jumped out of the train out of fear,” Nripen Bhattacharya, Public Relations Officer of the North East Frontier Railway told DH.
Several other passengers were also injured.
Four Fire engines rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
Railway officials said that they are yet to determine the cause of the fire.
