Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday.
Police said the gunfight erupted on Sunday night after Army and J&K police cordoned off Tangpawa village of Anantnag following specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
As it was getting dark, the joint team of forces tightened the cordon around the village and installed searchlights in the area to ensure that hiding militants don’t escape, police said and added that early in the morning, the militants opened fire which was retaliated by the forces in which two ultras were killed.
“#AnantnagEncounterUpdate: 01 more #terrorist killed. #Operation in progress. Further details shall (sic),” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.
The identity and the group affiliation of the slain militants wasn’t known immediately.
