Firebrand BJP MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh on Thursday termed Yoga guru Baba Ramdev as the "king of adulterators, "and threatened to launch a nationwide agitation against the products of Patanjali.
Speaking to reporters, Singh, a Lok Sabha member from Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh's Baharaich district, alleged that the ghee marketed by the Patanjali Yogpith was 'fake' and asked the people not to buy the same, and instead asked the people to keep cows so that they could prepare ghee themselves.
Singh had been served a legal notice by Patanjali director Swami Balkrishna after the former questioned the quality of Patanjali products and had been asked to tender an unconditional apology.
"I am not afraid of going to jail if it's in the interest of the people....I stand by whatever I have said.....I appeal to the seer community to stand against Baba Ramdev as the latter has been misusing the name of Maharshi Patanjali," Singh said.
The BJP MP also said that the quality of Patanjali products had been questioned in the past as well and appealed to the government to take action against the company and its promoters.
He said that he would organise a meeting of the saints and seers from across the country where a decision about launching a nationwide agitation against Ramdev would be taken.
Baba Ramdev had drawn flak from different quarters after his reported remarks on women at an event recently in Maharashtra. The Baba later tendered an apology.
