Lucknow: Terming both the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) as ‘’anti-reservation’’, BSP supremo Mayawati on Sunday vowed never to have any kind of truck with the two parties in future.
In a post on her X (formerly Twitter) handle, Mayawati also slammed the Congress for the latter’s demand for a caste census and sought to know from the grand old party as to why it did not conduct a caste census while in power.
‘’Both Congress and SP are anti-reservation ... they never wanted reservation ... their love for the Dalits is a sham ... BSP will never have any truck with them in future,’’ she said.
‘’Why did the Congress not conduct caste census when it was in power ... Congress has no respect for Ambedkar ... it did not confer Bharat Ratna on Ambedkar ... the followers of Ambedkar will never forgive the Congress,’’ Mayawati added.
She said that the erstwhile Congress government also did not declare state mourning even for a day after the demise of BSP founder Kanshiram. ‘’Dalits are aware of the double standards of the Congress on this issue,’’ she said.
The BSP supremo also said that the BJP, Congress and the SP were keeping silent on the recent Supreme Court judgement on reservations. ‘’All these three parties stand exposed on this issue,’’ she charged.
Mayawati’s remarks came a day after former Congress president and leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s comments at a ‘Samvidhan Samman Sammelan’ at Prayagraj that no one could stop caste census.
The BSP leader’s comments assume significance as it comes in the wake of the party’s dismal performance in Uttar Pradesh in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls. BSP could not win even a single seat in the state and a majority of its candidates lost their security deposits.
