Lucknow: The first FIR in Uttar Pradesh under the new criminal law, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which has replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC), was registered in Amroha district on Monday.
According to the police sources, the FIR was registered at Rehra police station under section 106 of the BNS which pertains to causing death by negligence. The FIR was registered at Rahra police station at around 10:00 am.
It says ‘’Whoever causes death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to five years, and shall also be liable to fine; and if such act is done by a registered medical practitioner while performing a medical procedure, he shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, and shall also be liable to a fine’’.
In the now scrapped IPC, the FIR would have been registered under section 304 A.
Sources said that Jaipal alias Mangla, a resident of Dhakia village in the district, came into contact with live wire while working in his fields. It is alleged that Rajveer Singh, who owned the neighbouring field, had fenced it with live wires.
Jaipal, who suffered serious injuries after coming into contact with the live wire, was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead by the doctors. Police said that the matter is being investigated.
