Lucknow: Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and party MP Ram Gopal Yadav on Monday triggered a huge controversy after he allegedly made objectionable remarks on chief justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud though he later backtracked and denied abusing the CJI.
Yadav's controversial remarks came in response to a question on the CJI's reported comments that he prayed before the God for a solution of the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid Title case and said that God helped finding a solution if one had faith.
"Are choro in baton ko...abhi bhi unhe Babri Masjid aur mandir deekh raha hai.'' (leave it...they still see Babri Masjid and Temple) Ram Gopal said when asked for his reaction on the CJI's remarks, while speaking to reporters in Mainpuri.
He was in Mainpuri on the occasion of filing of nomination papers by Tej Pratap Yadav from Karhal assembly seat where a by-poll was slated on November 13.
''Should I take note of such things?'' he further said.
''When you try to make the dead life, they become ghosts and begin to follow justice...where are they?....All such people.....(derogatory word) keep on saying such things,'' he added.
The SP leader later backtracked and clarified that he had never made such remarks on the CJI. ''I was never asked about the CJI's remarks....in fact the question pertained to Bahraich violence....the CJI is a reputed person,'' he said.
SP president Akhilesh Yadav also said that he was unaware of Ram Gopal Yadav's remarks.
The CJI had recently said that he had prayed before the God for a solution to the vexed Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute. ''Often we have cases when we are unable to arrive at a solution,'' he had said.
The CJI had said that a similar thing had happened before him in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case which was before him for three months. He said that he prayed to the God for a solution. ''God comes out with a solution if one has faith,'' he had said.
