Lucknow: A vehicle from the cavalcade of former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh's son Karan Bhushan Singh knocked two people, both cousin brothers, to death near Chataipur village in Kaiserganj Lok Sabha constituency in Gonda district on Wednesday morning.
According to the police sources, the escort vehicle was a part of Karan Bhushan Singh's cavalcade and was following Singh, who was on his way to attend a function when the incident occurred.
Police said that the deceased, identified as Rehan Khan and Shehzad Khan, were riding a motorbike when they were hit from behind by the speeding vehicle. A woman was also hit by the vehicle and sustained injuries.
All three were rushed to a hospital where Rehan and Shehzad succumbed to their injuries. Shehzad used to worked in a Gulf country and had returned home only two days back.
An irate mob of local villagers later blocked traffic on the busy Karnailganj-Huzurpur road demanding arrest of the culprit. The mob also tried to set the vehicle ablaze, police sources said. The police had a tough time in persuading the protesting people to lift the blockade.
An FIR was lodged at the Karnailganj Kotwali police station in this regard and efforts were on to nab the driver who managed to flee from the spot after the incident, police added.
Karan Bhushan Singh is the BJP candidate from Kaiserganj Lok Sabha seat, which went to poll on May 20.
