Special Judge (EC Act) Anil Kumar, who was currently posted at Farrukhabad, said in his complaint that five armed miscreants chased his vehicle, brandished weapons and tried to stop him in Khair area of Aligarh district around a fortnight back when he was on way to Noida.

In his complaint, Kumar said that the miscreants overtook his vehicle and then tried to block its way by stopping their vehicle before it on the road. He said that he was threatened by the miscreants and suspected that Sunder Bhati gang members might be behind it.

Kumar said that he managed to somehow dodge the miscreants and reach the Sofa police outpost and parked his vehicle there. The miscreants, seeing him parking his vehicle in front of the police outpost, took a u-turn and fled.

The Judge said that Sundar Bhati and some of his gang members were sentenced to life imprisonment in 2021 in a case of murder of Samajwadi Party leader Harendra Nagar and his gunner. Bhati, who faced dozens of cases of murder, extortion and other heinous crimes, was enlarged on bail by the high court recently. He was released from Sonbhadra district jail on October 23 last.

Bhati was considered to be the most dreaded gangster in western UP region and it was alleged that Sunny Singh, the main accused in the killing of mafi don turned politician Ateeq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf in police custody in Prayagraj in April last year, was a member of the Bhati gang.

Police said that a case was registered and the investigations were on.
