A day after the engine of a newly launched Vande Bharat Express train was damaged after it hit four buffaloes which had strayed onto the tracks in Ahmedabad, another incident took place on Friday after the train hit a cow in Anand district. In both incidents, none of the passengers was reported hurt.
The fresh incident happened on Friday between the Kanjari-Boriyad-Anand railway stretch in the Anand district. At around 3:55 PM, the train hit a cow that had also strayed onto its track. Officials said that it was a minor incident and didn't damage the train much but delayed it by 10 minutes.
The semi-high speed train running between Gandhinagar and Central Mumbai had met with an accident after four buffaloes came on its track in between Vatva and Maninagar stations in Ahmedabad. A portion of the metal nose came off due to impact.
Western railway officials said that the incident "cattle run over" halted the train briefly and resumed its journey within minutes. This is the same train that the prime minister had flagged off from Gandhinagar last Friday. Railway police registered an FIR against the buffalo owner.
The semi-high speed train is hailed as the country's first indigenously developed train between Gandhinagar and Mumbai. It is equipped with Collision Avoidance System "KAVACH" technology, which automatically prevents train collisions.
