Darjeeling: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday could not address his rally at Darjeeling in support of the BJP candidate Raju Bista after his chopper failed to land due to inclement weather.
Shah was the first top political leader to come to the hills in West Bengal where demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland is an electoral issue.
In the morning people gathered at the Lebong ground wanting to hear the Union Minister. But despite two attempts, his chopper could not land because of the fog and cloud that engulfed Darjeeling and surrounding areas since morning. After waiting for some time at Siliguri, he left for Bihar, skipping Darjeeling.
In a brief message for the audience, Shah apolgised for not making it but assured them that the Gorkha community would get justice. Later Shah addressed a rally at Katihar and held a roadshow at Silchar in Assam.
