CBI sleuths on Thursday collected the dental impression of Sanjay Roy, arrested prime accused in the rape-murder incident at state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, as part of their investigation, an officer said.
Roy's dental impression, which could play a vital role as evidence in the case, was collected during a questioning session by the central agency detectives at the Presidency Correctional Home here, he said.
West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Thursday said he will not share any public platform with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in view of people's outcry over the RG Kar hospital impasse.
In a video message, Bose also said he will also socially boycott the chief minister.
"I will not be sharing any public platform with the chief minister. I will take proactive steps against her for violating Constitutional provisions. My role as the Governor will be confined to the Constitutional obligations," Bose said.
The governor's message came after the proposed meeting between the chief minister and the agitating junior doctors did not take place earlier in the day.
Senior TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee on Thursday criticised the agitating medics of West Bengal calling them “inhumane and unfit to become doctors” and urged the state government to ensure that they are not allowed to appear for their final exams.
The Trinamool Congress leader's outburst came after agitating junior doctors, even after reaching the gates of the state secretariat Nabanna, refused to hold talks with the state government unless their demand for live streaming of the meeting to resolve the RG Kar hospital impasse was met.
The meeting did not take place as the Mamata Banerjee government did not allow live-streaming but said the proceedings could be video-recorded, an option rejected by the medics.
The son of a patient admitted to a private medical establishment in Kolkata allegedly threatened a doctor there that she would end up with the same fate as the medic of the RG Kar hospital, police said on Thursday.
The police started an investigation following a complaint was lodged in this regard.
An on-duty junior doctor of the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was raped and murdered inside the facility on August 9.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said she was "ready to resign" for the "sake of people" and expressed regret over the junior doctors' refusal to come for talks to resolve the impasse over the R G Kar rape-murder case.
Banerjee, who waited for nearly two hours for the agitating doctors to come for the meeting, said she also wanted the victim to get justice and apologised to the people of West Bengal for the continued deadlock.
The agitating junior doctors on Thursday blamed the West Bengal administration for its rigidness in not allowing live streaming of the meeting to resolve the RG Kar stalemate and asserted that they never sought the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, as offered by her.
Dubbing Banerjee's remarks blaming the medics for the impasse as unfortunate, the doctors said their 'cease work' and agitation would continue until their demands are met.
"This incident (Kolkata doctor rape and murder) is very unfortunate, and the CBI is investigating it, while the Supreme Court itself is monitoring it. The local police did not handle the matter properly either. So, I believe we should wait for the results... In several states, Governors interfere in matters and engage in politics these days. For the first time, I am seeing conflicts in many states between the Governor and the CM, which is not an appropriate practice in my opinion."
Junior doctors continued their 'cease work' and sit-in demonstration outside the West Bengal Health Department headquarters for the third consecutive day on Friday, a day after the proposed talks to resolve the RG Kar hospital impasse between agitating junior doctors and the Bengal government failed to take off.
Around 30 medics, representing 26 medical colleges participating in the stir, had visited Nabanna for the meeting that failed to materialise after the government did not accept the doctors' demand for live-streaming of the talks.
Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien Friday questioned the delay in filing a charge sheet by the CBI in the RG Kar hospital rape-murder case.
In a post on the social media platform X, the TMC leader demanded "swift justice".
"How long will the RG Kar victim's family have to wait for justice," O'Brien, the TMC's Parliamentary Party Leader in the Rajya Sabha, said in the post.
The Supreme Court is monitoring the case, he said, adding, "CBI has the accused & all the evidence. Why is it not filing a chargesheet & starting trial?"
Agitating junior doctors in West Bengal have written to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting their intervention in the RG Kar hospital impasse.

The BJP on Friday continued its protests in parts of West Bengal, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal over the alleged mishandling of the RG Kar hospital incident.
A party spokesperson said its leaders slammed the state government during their speeches at the sit-in venue in Esplanade area, while some women protesters drew sketches “with their blood” and held placards to demand justice for the young doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered at the hospital last month.
