West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday suffered a major injury resulting in a cut on her forehead, pictures shared by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on X showed.
"Our chairperson @MamataOfficial sustained a major injury. Please keep her in your prayers," the party wrote on its X account.
While the TMC, on its X handle, did not specify how Mamata got injured, her brother reportedly told a Bengali news channel that the injury was caused by an accidental fall.
Shortly after the incident came to light, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar enquired about Mamata's health and wished her a speedy recovery.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) sources told PTI that Dhankhar also expressed his "deep anguish" over Mamata's injury.
Dhankhar was the Governor of West Bengal before becoming the Vice-President and had often locked horns with Mamata on several issues.
Meanwhile, the BJP's West Bengal chief Sukanta Majumdar wished Mamata a speedy recovery.
The Congress' state unit president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also wished Banerjee a quick recovery, in a post on X.
