The TMC on Thursday refuted accusations of a police cover-up by the parents of the woman doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered, insisting that a newly surfaced video contradicts their claims by showing the family previously satisfied with the investigation.
The family was quick to respond, claiming that the video was forcibly recorded by the police just after the cremation.
The family members of the deceased medic, who joined the protesting doctors at RG Kar hospital on Wednesday night, accused the Kolkata Police of attempting to suppress the case by hastily cremating the body.
West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose on Thursday evening criticised the Mamata Banerjee administration for "failing to send" the technical report along with a recently passed anti-rape Bill which is necessary for giving assent to it, an official said.
Bose was very disappointed as it has been a regular practice of the state not to send technical reports along with Bills and then blaming the governor's office for not clearing them, he claimed.
"The governor criticised the state administration for failing to attach the technical report along with the Aparajita Bill. As per the rule, it is mandatory for the state government to send the technical report before a decision is taken on giving assent to the Bill," the Raj Bhavan official told PTI.
A US-based doctor who has contributed immensely to India's polio elimination efforts and measles surveillance initiatives on Thursday said that the perpetrators of the rape and murder of a woman doctor at a state-run hospital in Kolkata should be rapidly brought to justice.
Seattle-based Dr Ananda Sankar Bandyopadhyay is currently in India to address a seminar on polio in Chennai later this week.
He opined that the incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was a "colossal failure" of the West Bengal administration.

Senior TMC leader Derek O'Brien on Friday questioned the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding the status of the charge-sheet in the RG Kar hospital rape-murder case.
"When is CBI filing a charge-sheet in the RG Kar hospital rape and murder case and putting the accused on trial? When?" he posted on X.
Enforcement Directorate officials detain Prashun Chatterjee, a close aide of former principal of Kolkata's R G Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh, from Subhashgram in Kolkata. Following a seven-hour operation, Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials have detained Prashun Chatterjee from his residence in the De Para area of Subhashgram. Chatterjee, a close associate of Sandeep Ghosh, was also seen in a viral video from the seminar hall at RG Kar.

Today, Speaker Biman Banerjee hit back, saying, "I will request the honourable Governor (of the state) to please look into the Constitution and determine for yourself whether the bill passed by the West Bengal Assembly yesterday requires any further clarification."
BJP MP Sambit Patra, accusing the Bengal administration of being involved in a 'cover-up' of some sort, he said, "The victim's father has said that when the body was kept at (their) home, DC North (of the Kolkata Police) came to him and tried to give him money. Why? What was the administration trying to throw under the carpet by paying bribe money to the parents of the victim?"
Patra further said, "So long as the chief minister of West Bengal and Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal continue to hold their posts, a fair investigation into the case is not possible… Hence, the BJP asks both of them -- step down from your posts for a fair trial and justice to the victim."
The BJP leader said the demolition of a doctors' room and toilets adjacent to the suspected crime spot also raised several questions.
"The victim was murdered on the intervening night of August 8 and August 9. Sandip Ghosh, ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College, issued a letter on August 10 for demolition of the doctors' room, doctors' toilet and staff toilet adjacent to the seminar room," he said.
On the same day, the health and family welfare department's principal secretary and the director of medical education held a meeting and ordered a site inspection, Patra alleged.
"Inspection was also done the same day and the said rooms were demolished. What was the hurry? An attempt was made to destroy evidence… This was not possible without the complicity of Mamata Banerjee and the Kolkata Police commissioner," he charged.
Patra demanded that call detail records of Banerjee and Goyal be retrieved to ascertain what they talked about over the phone."
The West Bengal BJP on Friday organised a statewide "Chakka jam" (road blockade) programme in several parts of the city and in districts for an hour demanding justice for the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case and also the resignation of chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
As part of the protest, BJP workers burnt tyres at multiple locations and shouted slogans seeking justice for the victim and the resignation of the chief minister, who also holds the health and home department portfolios.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Friday questioned the West Bengal government for establishing fast track special courts in only five to six districts to deliver swift justice for crimes against women.
He said only recently, the state has sent fresh proposals to set up such courts in more districts.
Talking to reporters here on the sidelines of an event, the minister said the rape-murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata was shameful.
He said mistakes have been pointed out in the action taken after the incident, which even was tardy.
"Matter came to the Supreme Court. Then (West Bengal Chief Minister) Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter about the need for fast track courts. The scheme (for fast track special courts) already exists," he pointed out.
He said except for five-six districts, the courts were not set up (in West Bengal).

TMC's official X handle posted a tweet, accusing CBI of being BJP's 'loyal sidekick' and deliberately sabotaging the investigation. The tweet read, "After a 24-day delay, the prime accused in the R G Kar case, Sanjay Roy, was set to be produced in court today. But where was the Investigating Officer? Where was the CBI counsel? Nowhere to be seen! This is how utterly disinterested the CBI is when it comes to handling the case. It’s DELIBERATE SABOTAGE of the judicial process, with CBI playing BJP's loyal sidekick rather than discharging their duty."
