Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday continued to question Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of state-run R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, in connection with its probe into the alleged rape and murder of a medic, an official said.
Ghosh appeared for questioning before the central agency for the 13th consecutive day.
"Ghosh appeared before our sleuths for questioning," an official at the central agency said.
According to sources, the former principal of the state-run hospital, where the body of the trainee doctor was recovered on August 9, has already been questioned by the CBI for over 130 hours.
Following orders of the Calcutta High Court, the CBI took over the investigation into the alleged rape and murder of the postgraduate trainee doctor of the state-run hospital, from Kolkata Police.
A civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy was arrested by Kolkata Police in connection with the case.
Both Ghosh and Roy were among those who have undergone a polygraph test as part of the investigation process.
The CBI has named Ghosh in the FIR the agency has filed in connection with its probe into the alleged financial irregularities at the hospital during his tenure.
The central agency had, on August 25, conducted a day-long search operation at Ghosh's Beliaghata residence in Kolkata in connection with the corruption cases.
The Enforcement Directorate has also filed a money laundering case to probe alleged financial irregularities at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital during the tenure of its former principal and some others, official sources said.
Unabated protests against the death of the doctor continue to rock the state and elsewhere in the country.

"BJP is carrying out hooliganism in entire West Bengal. Shops and markets are being looted. The people of the BJP want to disrupt the peaceful environment. They are inciting the people continuously. But the people of Bengal or any other state will not fall for it. As far as the incidents of rape are concerned, they are the most in Uttar Pradesh and other BJP-ruled states. It is happening frequently in Bihar. Why are they silent on it? BJP wants to create a panic everywhere but they would remain unsuccessful in doing so."Tejashwi Yadav
"Mamata Banerjee does not want this case to be investigated properly because many secrets will come out, she does not want this to happen, so she is trying to divert attention by speaking nonsense and scaring people but people will not get afraid as this has become a mass movement"Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury
Kolkata: Rallies with and without political flags continued to pack in large numbers in Kolkata on Thursday, as protestors took to the streets to demand justice for the doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered in a state-run hospital here three weeks ago.
The Congress, the fans of arch-rival clubs Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting, and several civil society organisations organised separate processions to denounce the crime that has sparked nationwide outrage.
Led by state Congress president Adhir Chowdhary, the party rally taken out by the Congress began from College Square and culminated at Shyambazar five-point crossing in north Kolkata, close to RG Kar Hospital where the post-graduate trainee's body was found on August 9.
Chowdhury told reporters that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scared of the swelling public anger and mounting protests over her alleged attempt to divert the probe and shield the real culprits.
“She has even tried to threaten the agitating junior doctors of RG Kar (Hospital) who are aggrieved over the incident and blatant attempts to cover up the heinous crime by the administration subsequently. But the people of Bengal, who include the agitating junior doctors, are not to be intimidated by her or her party leaders,” he said.
Donning their respective club colours, football fans carried flags of Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Mohammedan and held together a giant banner ‘Justice for R G Kar’ while marching in procession from College Square to Esplanade in central Kolkata.
This is the second protest programme of football fans in Kolkata after their demonstration near the Salt Lake Stadium on August 19, the day of the Durand Cup derby between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal was scheduled to be held before it was cancelled.
Another rally was organized under the banner of "Pather Daabi" (Roar of the Road), which brought together people from diverse backgrounds to voice their anger against the RG Kar hospital incident.
Hundreds of women marched on the streets of Kolkata in "Angikar Jatra" or "Pledge Journey" in yet another rally.
Carrying placards and banners, they also demanded stringent action against the perpetrators and called for stronger safety measures for women in the city.
The city has been rocked by rallies since August 10 by organisations of students, women, political parties, doctors and members of the film fraternity, among others.
In an unprecedented show of solidarity for the victim, thousands of women took to the streets across the state at midnight on August 14.
