A tweet by Akshay Kumar on Monday morning triggered speculation about him contesting the Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket either from New Delhi or Punjab's Gurdaspur seat but the actor denied any such move from him.

It all started with his tweet at 9:45 am when he spoke about entering an "unchartered territory" when media and others started speculating that he would be contesting the elections.

"Getting into an unknown and uncharted territory today. Doing something I have never done before. Excited and nervous both. Stay tuned for updates," he tweeted.

Soon the rumour mills started working due to the ambiguity of his message in an election season. Kumar is a known supporter of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has been the face of many schemes like the Swacch Bharat.

New Delhi was one of the seats in speculation where cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who joined BJP, was also a serious contender for the seat. There were also other speculation about him contesting from Gurdaspur.

As discussions continued on what are his plans, Kumar tweeted again at 1:55 pm, "grateful for all the interest shown in my previous tweet but just clarifying in light of some wild speculation, I am not contesting elections."

There were also discussion about his citizenship with some arguing that he is a Canadian now and that he cannot contest the elections. While some other sections argued, he has honorary citizenship and it does not prevent him from contesting the polls.
